- In 2007, 525 films were released in UK cinemas, attracting 162,427,016 admissions (up 3.7% from 2006). Top 5 films of the year, all released during the fantastic summer months, were: Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End, Shrek the Third, The Simpsons Movie, Spider-Man 3.
- There are 659 cinemas with 3,357 screens in the UK.
Three-quarters of the screens are in multiplexes.
- The UK's first multiplex, in Central Milton Keynes,
opened in 1985.
- London has 16% of the UK's cinema screens but accounts
for 25% of cinema admissions.
- The UK's top grossing film of all time is Titanic (1998),
which took £69 million at the box-office.
- In 2006, a total of 156,560,402 cinema tickets were bought
in the UK, to see 505 different film releases. Top 5 films of
the year were: Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest,
Casino Royale, The Da Vinci Code, Ice Age 2: The Meltdown
and Borat.
